Major Online Outage Impacts Many Sites and Mobile Apps
A widespread online outage has impacted numerous online platforms and mobile apps globally, as users reporting issues getting online following issues at Amazon’s online infrastructure service.
The disrupted services encompass Snapchat, Roblox, the messaging service Signal, and Duolingo, as well as several Amazon-managed platforms including its key e-commerce website and the Ring security device manufacturer.
Throughout Britain, Lloyds bank was impacted along with its branches Halifax and Bank of Scotland, while there were further notifications of issues using the HM Revenue and Customs website on Monday morning. Also in the UK, several Ring customers took to social media to report their security devices were not working.
Solely in the United Kingdom, notifications of issues on individual applications ran into the tens of thousands for each app.
Officials confirmed that the problem originated in the Atlantic coast of the United States at the cloud division, a section that offers crucial internet framework for many firms, who utilize space on the company's servers. Amazon Web Services is the biggest global cloud computing service.
Soon after the start of the day (PDT) in the United States (8am BST), the company announced “higher error rates and delays” for AWS services in a zone on the east coast of the United States. The widespread consequence appeared to hit apps around the world, and the outage tracking website showing issues with the corresponding services in various regions.
The monitoring service Thousand Eyes, a tool that monitors internet outages, further indicated a surge in problems on the start of the week, including several cases found in the state of Virginia, the region of Amazon’s US-East-1 region where the company stated the outage originated.
